People throughout their lives tend to remember a special teacher who they really felt inspired by, a teacher who managed to really get the best out of them. The ability to inspire and motivate students is what separates good teachers from great teachers. Certain teachers who have a genuine passion for their job and care for their students fall into this category. The ability to inspire a young mind is an amazing gift and one of the most important things we can do for our students.
That being said, I’ve compiled a list of inspirational teaching quotes. All of these quotes really resonate closely with my personal teaching beliefs.
“Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher” -Japanese Proverb
Japanese wisdom is timeless, a purely amazing culture which I have had the personal pleasure to work with. Like i previously mentioned everyone or at least most people always remember that ONE teacher who really motivated them and managed to get the best out of them and they will always remember that teacher. The Japanese are very self-aware and I feel this quote speaks to me and my own personal experiences as a student and as a teacher i strive to be that ONE teacher that my students will always remember.
Nine tenths of education is encouragement – Anatole France
This quote emphasises how important it is to encourage and support students. Without a doubt encouragement is a must when teaching and provides a wide range of benefits. There are many different ways to show encouragement if you’re looking to improve your abilities as a teacher this is a subject that you should explore.
Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn by Benjamin Franklin (Maybe)
Both Benjamin Franklin and Confucius the Chinese philosopher have both been credited with this quote regardless it rings true. When you are truly involved in an activity when learning you are engaged and your attention is focused on the task at hand. Keeping the attention of a class in itself is a skill but actively involving in their learning makes for some great teaching.
The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery by Mark Van Doren.
This quote introduces the concept that students are not just consumers of information they are also producers of knowledge. Teachers can introduce the idea of reflection and processing the meaning of their learning experiences.
If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people
– Chinese Proverb
Knowledge is food for thought, and while food is perishable, thoughts persist. Teachers feed the whole world, many times over. Another beautiful proverb from Asia.
